Does Consumption Of Alcohol Trigger The ALT Levels?
Hi there,Just came back from a follow up from my doctor from some blood work I gave back about a month ago. Outlier was my ALT was at 91. I am a 27 year old male, not overweight, exercise 4-5 times per week. My diet is generally healthy with the exception of some alcohol consumption on the weekends. Doctor is sending me for an ultrasound (plus took new blood work) however does feels there is much to be concerned about. How much does alcohol consumption play on ALT levels? Is 91 cause for serious concern?
Yes consumption of alcohal even 10 ml daily can damage liver. It is true that Alt levels do rise and liver can be damaged by alcohal consumption . Alt 91 is high. Alcohal causes alcohalic hepatitis leading to cirhosis . Ultrasound scan will show if there is fatty liver, acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis or cirhotic liver or has not been effected. But liver enzymes are first to rise. If youstop alcohal your ALT will come down to normal
