Hello Doctor: Im an university student and i am only 21 this year. Last week I was taking a urine in the public toilet of my university and a drop of liquid from the urine bowl got on my glans. I wonder is there any chance i could get hiv or std? I am so young and i do not want to be ruined by this accident :(
Hello, First and foremost, do not worry! There are many medical professionals who get needle prick injuries while collecting samples even among them only a countful get infected. Normally HIV virus spread only via body fluids especially blood, semen, breast milk, vaginal secretions. So you haven't been contact with any of them In the first place you don't even know if the urine drop was from a hiv infected person. Even if it has fallen on your glans your intact skin can protect for a certain extent and guessing by your level of panic I will tell that you washed it thoroughly then and there. Seroconversion must take place for the virus to.infect someone and given your type of contact and assuming that the virus can pass by urine and the drop belonged to a infected person the probability of you getting infected is infinitely negligible. Do not worry!
