Does Cow S Milk Cause Throat Infection?

Hi, My baby is 8 months old. Currently I m giving her cow s milk insead of formula milk as prescribed by my doctor. But she is often prone to throat infections (atleast once in a month). One of my other doctor told that this might be due to cow s milk and suggested with Dexolac Premium Formula Milk. Can cow s milk cause such infections? Also please advice if Dexolac is safe to use. Thanks

Hi,

Unpasteurised cow milk (from local vendors) may be a cause of pharyngitis from contamination, but this is unlikely with properly processed packaged milk. Ideally speaking, it is better to avoid cow milk before 1 year of age. If absolutely needed(as in very low milk output or working mothers), it is better to use formulas (like Dexolac) before 1 year, as these are more refined than whole cow milk. Rarely, non infectious pharyngitis may occur as a part of milk allergy; in this case, the same problem can persist with formula also.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
