Does Dark Red Bleeding Between Periods Indicate Perimenopause?
Hi, I m a 48 year old women and for the past 6 months or so I have been bleeding very dark red blood between periods. My period lasts for about a week. Stops for about two days and then I bleed very dark red blood for about two more weeks. Last month was the worst. It is now followed with mucus. Is this just pre menopausal are could it be more serious. I see the Dr. this Wednesday.
I can understand your concern. Your age and symptoms suggest that you are entering menopausal phase. Hormonal imbalance is very usual in this phase and may cause irregular periods with irregularities in flow.
I would say that taking the gynecologist's appointment is the wise decision you have taken. The doctor will examine you and prescribe blood tests to determine hormonal levels and possibly ultrasonography to examine uterus and ovaries. Based on the results, you might be prescribed hormonal replacement therapy to control the menopausal symptoms.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
