Does Degenerative Disc Cause Pain Around The Waist And Hip?
I have degenerative disc disease, and I am having severe pain in right side around waist when I get up from a sitting position. I also have pain in right outer portion of hip. Is this from the degeneration? I fell in 2012 landing on my right knee, and have had limp since that time. I have difficulty walking when I first get up from sitting
Your symptoms are indicative of degenerative disc disease, or it could be complicated with sciatica. Yes, degenerative disc disease is a painful condition. You are suggested to do regular walking, it will help your flexibility & mobility. DO stretch exercises under a physiotherapist, lose weight if obese. Occupational & physical therapy are effective. You can take pain medications (Naproxen/combiflam) for relieve. Get clinically assessed, you may need steroid shots. Get CBC, tests for OA/RA & imaging tests done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
