Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband had a small stoke in 2006. He has been on Aggrenox since that time. Yesterday he went to his doctor at the VA. She is a new doctor to us. Anyway she told him to stop the Aggrenox and take a low dose aspirin. She did add Lipitor. I am scared. The stroke in 2006 was very scarey although he was not harmed by it. He is still able to live his life well. However, I am worried that if he stops the Aggrenox he will have another stroke and this one could be worse. I can t really talk to him about this. I just wondered how bad this was. He is very independent and very disciplined. I just worry about this change. Thank you!
Hello dear Greetings Regarding your doctors order to stop aggrenox and take low dose of aspirin for your husband with a past history of stroke is a welcome development
Aggrenox is a combination of dipyridamole is to reduce the risk of stroke in a patient that has a previous mini stroke when taken for long time and on high doses will lead to Intracranial hemorrhage and peptic ulcer perforation
Moreover your husband will definitely need adequate Councelling by a psychologist to enable him adapt to this change in his medications
Hence removing the aggrenox will definitely not affect him let him take the low dose aspirin I hope this helps Regards
