Does Double Dosage Of Gabapentin Cause Any Serious Side Effects?

My mother took two 400 miligram gabapentin pills at the same time for a total of 800 mg dose. She is 86 and stubborn and did it because twice a day was required but she did not want to have to take an additional pill in the afternoon. I only figured out that she was doing that after she did it for months. She has many new issues right now. Could her heavy dose of gabapentin be responsible ?

Incomplete data like the purpose of taking Gabapentin. She needs to be observed for certain symptoms. The typical adult dose of Gabapentin usually starts at 300 milligrams (mg) twice daily for up to 1,800 mg a day.

She seems to be taking larger doses at once and it could result in an overdose causing extreme drowsiness, slurred speech, lethargy, double vision, and diarrhea.

So, she needs to be observed carefully and if she has already developed the signs and symptoms as mentioned above she must be examined by her treating doctor for proper clinical evaluation and to adjust the dose of Gabapentin.
