Does Drinking Milk Of A Rabies Infected Cow Cause Any Infections?

Hello ,we have been consuming milk from rabies infected cow for one month unknowingly and cow died yesterday being diagonsed with rabies.Is there any possibility of getting infected as we consumed only after boiling ?Do all the family members need vaccination ?

Hello,

No. There is no evidence that the consumption of milk or milk products from rabid animals transmits the disease.

The rabies virus is primarily transmitted from the rabid animal’s saliva when it bites or scratches someone. Licks to wounds or grazed and broken skin, or to the lining of the mouth and nose, can also transmit the disease.

However, there are no laboratory evidence-based reports of human rabies occurring due to consumption of milk or cooked meat.

There is no need for all the family members to get vaccinated against rabies.
