Does Drinking While Empty Stomach Cause Drunkenness Sooner?
I never tried this online Doctor chat before but just was looking for some educated advice. The other night I went out drinking with my buddy. I had ate around 2pm that day and nothing after that until after I got home from the bar. After about 30 to 40 minutes of talking with my buddy, I was drinking a long island. I had finished almost half of it but not quite half. (Him and I were sitting when this happened) I turned to him to answer a question he asked me and when I was turned back, I started getting a overwhelming feeling of being super drunk. I didn t know what to do since I know I should not feel this drunk after only half a glass of a long island. The glasses are the tall ones mind you. So I got up and made my way to the bathroom. By time I got to the bathroom it was difficult to walk and I felt super dizzy like I had 10 shots and was full blown drunk. I put my head down on the bathroom sink and threw some water on my face and drank about 15 hand fulls of water. When I stood back up, the feeling had gone away and I felt more buzzed than before walking to the bathroom but didn t feel full blown drunk. This has never happened to me before after a few drinks or even drinking these tall long islands. I was curious, Do you think the combination of not eating before going out and it being a good 6 hours since I had ate mixed with the combination of multiple liquors they put in long islands just decided to hit me hard for those few seconds? Thank you for your advice and time.
You are precisely right in making this conclusion. Alcohol is more quickly absorbed from intestine into the blood. The longer, it stays in the stomach, the slower it is absorbed from the intestine and slower it affects the body. The presence of food in the stomach will make the absorption of alcohol more slower, resulting in slower effect as compared to alcohol being taken empty stomach.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
