Does Ear Mites From Cats Cause Itchy Bumps?

My daughter and I have noticed in the past two weeks that we have small itchy bumps on our chest/torso area. We have a new kitten that we are treating for ear mites. My bumps seem to be in the area of where she sits on me. Could we be getting bitten by the ear mites? We have checked her for fleas and she has none. Suggestions?
