Does Effectiveness Of Oxycodone Vary With Different Generic Brands?
I am on oxycodone 15 mg for osteoarthritis. I am finding significant differences in the effectiveness of the different generic brands. How can I find the company which makes the one I find most effective and how can my doctor write the prescription to ensure that I receive pills that actually help me?
You are on a very large dose of oxycodone for osteoarthritis. Opiates like oxycodone are no longer recommended for long term non cancer pain.
However, that being said, if you are in the United States, the generic version of oxycodone must meet very high standards and basically be as potent as brand name oxycodone.
The brand name version of Oxycodone (Roxicodone) is extremely expensive and most insurance will not pay for it. There is really no way to tell which generic brand of oxycodone you will get.
When the doctor writes the prescription, he will simply write the drug name and the pharmacy can decide which generic brand to use to fill your prescription. Ask the pharmacist next time you pick up your prescription.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Alexander Underwood
