Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has shortness of breath which seems to be related to very large tonsils. The problem is that apart from the occasional ear infection or viral throat infection, her only symptom is constant shortness of breath. An asthma pump makes no difference and the problem gets worse when she becomes acutely aware of her shortness of breath. I am not sure what to do....
Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if enlarged tonsils cause shortness of breath which seems to be due to bacterial or viral infection which is leading to tonsillitis and ear infection , tonsillitis sometimes cause difficulty in breathing in such case your should immediately consult doctor. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles. You should take antibiotic Ciorofloxacin for 5days. You should take antiallergic medication. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get examination of tonsils done , throat swab test , viral culture test , hearing test and examination with otoscope and start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take steam several times a day ,which will help in reducing inflammation .
