Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am experiencing some severe tinnitus in my right ear. I have seen an ENT and an audiologist. No hearing loss was found, however, the ringing gets louder day by day and I can’t sleep. I was also diagnosed with Eustachian tube dysfunction, also in the right ear. Is it possible that the dysfunction from the Eustachian tube is causing such debilitating tinnitus? I’ve tried decongestants and air but nothing seems to work. I’m hoping it is just the Eustachian tube being the problem.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Eustachian tube dysfunction may cause pressure imbalance in the middle ear and can cause tinnitus. Generally it will resolve with supportive measures. You can try nasal decongestants and steam inhalation to open up blocked Eustachian tubes. If symptoms persist, consult an ENT surgeon and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
