Hi, I have been taking 5000mcg of Biotin the last 6 months or so. I just stopped taking them 3 days ago. I have also been trying to conceive the last 2 months. I am worried I didn t stop taking the Biotin in time. I have heard too much Biotin can cause a miscarriage. How long does it take to leave the system? I am now (in the past three days) taking Prenatal vitamins.
Hi. Yes, over dosage of Biotin may cause miscarriage. Biotin is a water-soluble B-complex vitamin considered to have a positive effect to you while pregnant when taken in the correct dosage mostly in the development of fetus during the embryonic stage. Therefore your doctor may prescribe for a supplement of these vitamins. Biotin is possibly safe when used in recommended amounts during pregnancy and breast-feeding. The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for biotin is 300 micrograms daily which is possibly safe during pregnancy. However taking too much during pregnancy of this vitamin may hinder you from getting pregnant or it can also cause a miscarriage when you are pregnant. Therefore it is good to follow your doctor’s advice on the dosage when you are pregnant. Since it is a water soluble vitamin it is not stored and hence excreted in a few days.
