Does Exercise Help In Preventing A Heart Attack?

I was told 40 years ago that I had a heart event by my cardiologist but he very much stated that I did not have a heart attack and gave me clearance for an operation on my knee two weeks after that. Recently my cardiologist here in Florida said that I had a old heart attack and I should now take statins. I have read two books on statins and due to theoir side effects am reluctant to take them. I have normal clorestral levels , am 81 years old. in good health and exercise an hour daily. What other heart events are there besides a heart attack??????

Hi,

Other heart conditions besides heart attack, includes angina pectoris both stable and unstable, Prinzmetal's angina, valvular heart diseases. Exercise helps in opening up collateral coronary circulation, so if one of your major artery gets blocked, you still would have these collaterals supplying your cardiac muscles thus saving you from a heart attack.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
