Does Exposure To Loud Sound After A Myringoplasty Damage The Ears?

I had myringoplasty surgery almost 4 weeks ago. I attended a Wedding Show yesterday and unfortunately got into a situation where I was right next to a really loud speaker. I’m worried this may have damaged my ear? I feel no pain and there is no discharge, I just think it feels abit tender but I may be paranoid?

Hello,

As it is already 4 weeks now, you are not going to have any complications due to loud noise, so relax. Let me mention the do's and don’ts after a myringoplasty:

1) Refrain from commuting to work for at least 1 week and if possible for 2 weeks after surgery owing to dizziness and chances of post op infection.

2) Avoid direct contact of ear with water (shower, bath) at least for 4 weeks or in simple words, ear must be dry.

3) Avoid strenuous activities like severe coughing, lifting heavy weights, indulging in exertional sports et cetera.

4) Avoid blowing nose for at least 4-6 weeks, sneeze with mouth such that no pressure is felt on ear.

5) Do not fly for 6 weeks after surgery. So, just relax and carry on with your daily routine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi.m
