Does Extreme Stress Cause Dizziness With Tingling Fingers, Toes And Foot?

Last Friday my wife experienced an episode of dizziness and tingling in her left fingers and left toes and foot. She is still in hospital and is being investigated for a mini stroke but all tests including 2 x ct scans, Doppler ultrasound of caratoid arteries, numerous physical examinations, eye and coordination tests, blood tests, ect, bp have all shown nothing. She is an extreme worrier and has had rather extreme family problems over last few months and has been worrying unbelievably over this. Can you indicate whether this extreme stress and worry could cause these symptoms.

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what your wife had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, if this all extensive work up has been normal, it is most likely due to depression.

Sometimes conversion disorder may lead to these symptoms however another possibility is hyperventilation syndrome triggered by anxiety leading to hypocalcemia which can cause these symptoms.

Her stress medicines need to be titrated accordingly and hopefully will lead to an improvement in her symptoms.
