Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Food Allergy Cause Burning Sensation, Redness And Watering Of Eye?
At times just my right eye waters. At times it waters so bad it burns and the area around my eye gets red. Years ago my eye doctor said I was allergic to something. About a year ago I went on the whole30 program where you do not eat processed foods. My eye did not water. One day I had an apple and my eye watered! I figured I was allergic to apples. About a few weeks later, I had some very sweet wine. My eye started watering while I was still drinking it. This week I have not eaten processed foods and my eye did not water. I had some baked sweet potatoes wedges and my eyes watered! I m not sure if I m allergic to something in the growing process, the type of sugar in each of the foods, another ingredient that is in all the foods, or what is making my eye water. Do you have any ideas of what might be causing my eye to water, or what these foods have in common?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have burning sensation, redness and watering of eye. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like eye allergies , conjunctivitis , styes , chalazion or injuries. Food allergy can also cause such symptoms . I would suggest you to wash your eyes with cold water several times a day , put corticosteroid eye drops in your eyes and take over the counter anti histamine like benadryl twice a day . If condition doesn't get better then consult ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis and treatment . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory and antibiotics . Do not apply any cosmetic product on face and put methyl cellulose eye drops in eye to prevent dryness . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
