Does Free Fluid In Cul-de-sac As Shown On Transabdominal Ultrasound Of The Pelvic Area Mean Something Dangerous?

I just had a transabdominal ultrasound of the pelvic area due to severe right pelvic pain that comes and goes for the last 6 months. Findings: The uterus identified measures 8.5x4.8x5.5cm. Endometrium measures 8mm in thickness. Free fluid in the cul-de-sac is noted. Is this normal and/or do I have anything to worry about? If this is abnormal, what would the next steps be? I appreciate your help!

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Mild free fluid in the cul-de-sac is normal. It is physiologically associated with ovulation. However, excessive fluid may be associated with pelvic inflammatory disease. It should be clinically correlated.
Uterus is normal in size.
Endometrial thickness is also normal. It varies with the stage of menstrual cycle.
Hope i have answered your query.

Take Care
