Does Handling A Deceased Body That Was Affected By Meningitis Cause Sickness?
Is it safe to handle a deceased human body when death was caused by meningitis? I am an embalmer and have such a case (today). My research shows that the standard precautions including the use of full PPE are all that is required during transfer and embalming. My views have been met with opposition from quite a few people in the past. I would like to be able to address their arguments with fact.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Meningitis generally spread by droplet and body fluids. Being an embalmer, you are at joking risk. If you wear PPE according to standard protocols, you are safe. You can also get vaccines for the meningitis. Keep a hand sanitizer in your hand and use it after each contact.
Hope I have answered your query. Thanks.
