Does Having Abnormal Extra-axial Fluid Collection Mean Normal MRI?

How can a person have a normal MRI when part of it reads, Abnormal extra-axial fluid collection, midline shift or vasogenic edema itentified? I am 63 years old, and in good health, the only mediciane I take is for CIC, Linzess, plus my vitamins. I do have a history of cancer in the family, Mother, father, brothers, aunts, uncles, etc. So I want to be sure this is nothing. I only went to the doctor due to the ringing in my ears since March of this year. All ENT and Audiology have checked out normal. So, how important is the abnormal finding?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

While abnormal extra axial fluid collection does not pose a risk to developing cancer, it is important to know how much exactly is this collection and what are the present consequences you are having. If the collection is causing raised brain pressure then you may need draining. There is no mention of hydrocephalus in your query so I assume you do not have it. Fluid collection can be due to trauma in recent past, aging changes or increased production of the fluid. Images are very important to be seen before coming to conclusion.
