Hi, My mum was told she needs to have a hysterectomy as she has multiple fibroids. She is post menapause for about 10 years. She is 52 now. I was worried about the fibroids turning into something else. She has 1 large fibroid removed 5 years ago and the others have grown a bit and some additional ones.
Hi, Thanks for consulting us. Fibroids are hormone dependent tumors of the womb. Normally they tend to regress after menopause. If they grow after menopause, there is a risk that there may be some malignancy inside. I think this could be the reason behind the suggestion given to your mother. You can confirm this from her treating doctor. Best wishes for you & your mother.
