Does Having Intercourse At Long Intervals Affect Fertility?

Hello Dr, I have to fly every couple of months to meet my partner as he works overseas. We wish to have a baby, but im wondering if I get pregnant. We only have intercourse during my visiting and go without intercourse for a month or two. Do those factors affect my fertility? My dr said I have no issue for getting pregnant, but I m worried coz of our situation now. Thank you :)

Hi,

Of course frequent sexual intercourse definitely increases your chances of being pregnant, but more it depends on the sexual intercourse during fertile window of menstrual cycle. Day of ovulation as well as 2-3 days before and after ovulation may be more fertile.

During this fertile period, the chances of your being pregnant are maximum after sexual intercourse. Hence you are advised to plan your visit to your husband taking into account of your ovulation time. Time of ovulation can be found by home stick urine test, temperature recording, vaginal mucus discharge or saliva test etc.
