Does Having Plan B After 24 Hours Of Unprotected Intercourse Cause Pregnancy?
Hi, doctor. I have a very serious problem. I took Plan B after 24 hours of unprotected intercourse. I am very concern about this because I feel this might become a failure since I was ovulating the day of the intercourse. Is there a possibility that this might affect me?
Hello and welcome to HCM, I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries. Plan B is supposed to be taken within 72 hours after intercourse. There are various ways in which it acts. It may prevent ovulation, prevent sperms from reaching the ovum and prevent the baby from attaching to the mother if there is an accidental pregnancy. So even after ovulation it does protect. The effect that it may have on you are mainly nausea and vomiting. No long term effects have been documented.
As of now, we must assume that since you have taken it within 72 hours it will protect. Please do not worry.
Hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help. Thanks for using HCM. Have a good day. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology
