Does Having Unprotected Sex While On Nexplanon Implant Cause Pregnancy?

I have had the Nexplanon implant for now 7 months. Me and My significant other had unprotected sex and now I have been experiencing pregnancy symptoms such as; pinkish discharge, gas, headaches, tender breast, heavy to no bleeding, frequent urination, lower abdomen pain and lower back pain. I have taken the clear blue test and received a negative result 7 days before my normal period.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Nexaplanon (etonogestre) implant is one of the most effective forms of contraception (birth control) available. It is found to be over 99% effective in preventing pregnancy up to 3 years continuously.

Based on the history given you seem to have developed side effects suggestive of pelvic inflammatory disease.

I advise you to consult your doctor for proper evaluation and certain lab tests such as an ultrasound and urine analysis followed by an appropriate treatment.

Hope this answers your query.
