Does High Blood Pressure Cause Black Spots In The Vision?
I have a Hx of high blood and used a beta blocker metoprolol for 2yrs . which I stopped taking as advised by my doctor due to my pressures being controlled and issues with the medication. I m currently experiencing visual disturbances. I m seeing black spots in my eyes. could this be associated with high blood pressure?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, uncontrolled hypertension can cause black spots in vision. Actually high blood pressure in retinal vessels can lead to retinal heamorrhage or retinal thrombosis. Both of these ultimately leads to ischemia and infarction in retina. This area of retinal infarct will give black spot in vision. So black spots in vision in hypertension patient should always be evaluated for retinal damage. So better to consult ophalmologist and get done retina examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
