I am 40 year old man and a teacher by profession. Recently my doctor diagnosed the swolleness of my thyroid as hypertyhroidism. My T3 total was 3.4, T4 total was 188.6 but TSH was 0.1 /L. He administered with two tablets- Ciplar 40 and Neo-Mecarcazole 10. Are these medicines O K? I am thin by birth. Is my lean and thin due to hyperthyroidism?
Thyroid hormones increase the basal metabolism of the body. Hence more of the energy is used for metabolism rather than storage as fat when they are in excess.
Thyroid hormones excess could well be the cause of leanness and thinness, depending upon the time of onset.
The treatment depends upon cause and symptoms. If Graves' Disease is the cause, Neomercazole is indicated. For symptoms like palpitations, beta blockers like Ciplar LA can be given.
However, to be able to tell exactly what drugs and in what doses you should be receiving, you have to be properly examined and evaluated.
Hope it helps...
