Yesterday I was using a desert tan spray paint and a clear coat spray paint. After I was finished I had a little pain in my throat but then it had went away. I didn t start feeling anymore pain till today around lunch and now I feel like I have strep throat. My throat hurts, and I can barely talk and swallow. Im wondering if it could be the paint or if I just so happened to come down with something.
Throat pain and pain during swallowing and loss of voice can be due to inflammation of the throat and vocal cords with the inhaled fumes of the spray paint. However, it can also be due to a superseded throat infection.
So, first of all, you should do warm saline gargles, antiseptic mouthwash gargles and suck Cepacol lozenges. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.
If there is no improvement or it worsens in the next 3 to 4 days, then consult an Emergency room and gets evaluated and a throat swab culture can be done. A course of antibiotics can also be advised.
