Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been violently ill with a stomach bug the past 2 days. He is finally getting better and I went to clean the bathroom today. I used Lysol because it is one of the few things to kill norovirus. The instrctions are to make sure surfaces remain wet for 10 minutes so I sprayed a lot and went a little overboard. Now our whole house smells so strong of Lysol and I am worried about breathing it in all night. My husband keeps saying he can taste it in the air. Do I need to worry? I did not wear a mask when I sprayed (but I wish I had). I am not coughing but I feel some pressure in my sinuses
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your query, your husband has inhaled Lysol fumes. Yes, it can cause side effects. It contains polyurethane and volatile organic compounds, known as VOCs, which are the cause of bad health and which are toxic.
You should be very careful about it. I would suggest you wash face properly with plenty of water and keep on inhaling fresh air.
If any symptoms occur consult a doctor without any delay and get a complete examination done and start treatment accordingly because condition sometimes becomes complicated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
