Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 22 year old female. have not had my period for a year I ve had ultrasounds pelvic and abdominal. shows nothing all my hormones are fine . Friday I took a sleeping pill called amitripityline for the first time and the next morning I started my period. I just would like to know what you could make of that
Amitriptyline is an antidepressant that may be used to assist with sleep as well. Generally, antidepressants may affect the menstrual cycle but mostly causing irregular bleeding or short periods. It is unlikely your menstruation was induced by amitriptyline. Very likely this is a coincidence.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
