Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was just diagnosed with neutropenia, blood work showing a low white blood count and low neutrophils.I am on 10 mcg of Cytomel daily along with 100mcg of Synthroid for hypothyroidism. The Cytomel was just started in January, almost 15 years after Hashimotos Thyroiditis was diagnosed. I had been having hair loss and other symptoms of hypothyroidism which have resolved with the Cytomel. Could the Cytomel have contributed to or caused the Neutropenia?
There is no documented evidence of Cytomel causing neutropenia or low white blood cell count. The common side effects of Cytomel (Liothyronine) include increased nervousness, tremors, heat intolerance, sweating, palpitation, increased heart beats, unexplained weight loss and weight loss. It is not known to cause the side effects listed in your query.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
