Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Intake Of Doxycycline Dilute The Result Of HIV Test?
Hiv 1/2 ag/ab with reflex done 20 days post exposure to sex with a female massage worker with a condom that didnt break. The results were non reactive. 'My question is i took doxycycline for 7 days and got side effects. Would this dillute my results in anyway? Also is the p24 a good indicator of status at 3 wks. Worried.
As a physician, I would like to tell you that Doxycycline will not affect your HIV test results. And a negative test now does not rule out the possibility of getting HIV. You should take another test after 4 to 5 months as this test will be negative despite you could be in window period of getting HIV.
I would further advise you to indulge in safe sexual practices and be careful in the future for your own good.
Hope this will help you. Feel free to ask any further question. Have a nice day.
Regards, Dr. Abhijeet
