Does Intake Of Forteo For Osteoporosis Cause Severe Leg Pain?
Yes, I have been taking Forteo for my severe Osteoporosis now for 7 months. At first I had no side effects, but the last couple of months I have had bad leg pain that wakes me up most nights. It bothers me during the day but not as bad. I have tried every remedy including leg cramp medicine, mineral lotion, quinine water, ,magnesium and Potassium. Nothing has worked so far. Can you help?
Yes Forteo causes pain in leg (limb) as a side effect. Forteo is a very effective medicine for osteoporosis and it reduces risk of fracture. Side effect in the form of leg pain is manageable. Treatment with Forteo controls osteoporosis but does not cure it. Therefore, it is very important to continue to use of Forteo even if you feel well. Do not stop using Forteo until advised by your doctor. You have been using it since 7 moths. You have to use it for 11 months more (total 18 months) for full benefits of Forteo. Leg pain will automatically resolve after stopping Forteo. Advice 1. Continue Forteo as suggested by your doctor 2. Amitryptyline 10 mg per oral at bed time for one month 3. Drink 4 – 5 liters of water daily to maintain proper hydration I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
