Does Intake Of I Pill Post Intercourse Avoid Pregnancy?

Hi doc, Myself is a 40 years old leady, weight about 75 kgs, height 5 5 . I have two sons. Yesterday around 11:30 am I had intercourse with my husband. He was wearing a condom, but we feel that few drop of cum may gone inside me. So around 6:00 pm I had taken an I-pill. Today I have no unusual feelings. So we are afraid that the I-pill is working or not. What should we do now ? Please advise........

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

It looks that you suspected a condom break and then took iPill after some hours. This contains 1.5mg levonorgestrel and will prevent any pregnancy. You have taken the right step and it will help you. There is nothing to be afraid.

However you might have early or delayed periods and your cycles can get irregular for two months. This is because iPill has high dose of hormones and it will cause imbalance in the hormone level leading to abnormal periods.

iPill is to be taken only in emergency like you used. It should not be taken not more than once in 3 months to avoid side effects. Please do not worry.
