Does Intake Of Ibuprofen Cause Black Stools With Blood?

I have been having headaches daily for several months. So, I started taking ibruprophen daily. I take two to three times a day. Last week I noticed red blood when wiping after a bowel movement. Today I have had two BMs that are black and red blood when the end of wiping. I also take generic Lortab 500 mg prn once a day.

Yes, it is due to the side effects of Ibuprofen.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen can cause gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), stomach ulcer, bleeding from the stomach or intestines, kidney damage, etc.

Based on the history given you seem to have developed bleeding from the stomach due to chronic use of Ibuprofen.

Whereas the other pain relieving medication Lortab (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) is unlikely to cause such bleeding.

You are advised to stop taking Ibuprofen and visit the ER in your nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
