Does Intake Of Metformin Cause Vitamin B-12 Deficiency?
Can Metformin cause you to have low B-12 and can low B-12 cause dementia? My husband has been taking Metformin 1,000 mg twice daily for many years. His memory seems to be worse each day. He also takes Lantus insulin once a day. Do you think it s necessary to take Metformin since he is already taking insulin?
Hello, Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic! I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Metformin does not cause vitamin B12 deficiency or dementia. It could be due to some other causes like early signs of Alzheimer's disease. Try to include more meat and fish in his diet which are rich in vitamin B12. A neurology consultation also advised. Thanks
