Does Intake Of Nexium For Long Term Cause Any Side Effects?

I am an eighty- two year old woman, and am concerned about things I hear regarding Nexium usage. I have talked with my family physician regarding long-term usage; her answer is always, Do you still have a hiatal hernia? Of course, the answer is, Yes ! I go every four months for routine blood tests; I get good good reports for someone my age. My kidney function is 55%, liver enzymes good, cholesterol levels good, blood count was normal at last check three months ago. No known heart problems. Do I have reason to be concerned about the effect of long-term usage of Nexium for acid reflux? I have used it since it came on the market.

It lowers stomach acidity.
Consequences of that are the stomach won't kill germs as much, with Hiatal hernia small amounts of stomach contents go up the wrong way and down into the lung. There is an increased risk of pneumonia with nexium (and a lower risk of lung irritation from acid).
Minerals are not dissolved as well. There is less absorption of calcium and this leads to an increased risk of osteoporosis. This has to be checked in 84 year olds.
