Does Intake Of Prednisone Help In Treating Temporal Arteritis?
An elderly friend (86 yrs. of age) has temporal arteritis. She is again suffering with headaches while on 20 mg of prednisone. Her dr. wants her to start 200 mg Hydroxychloroquine. Do you think this a good idea & will it help? She also suffers w/arthritis. Thanks.
That's a good question. Let's discuss this further.
Both Prednisone and Hydroxychloroquine are prescription medications. One of the symptoms of temporal arteritis can be severe headaches. Hydroxychloroquine can also help one to reduce headaches and is a good idea for some people. It is also effective for arthritis and is often used a disease modifying drug to reduce swelling in the legs.
It would also be a good idea to discuss the side effects in detail with the doctor. You can also write back to me if you have more questions about this.
I hope this helps.
