Does Intake Of Sinemet For A Long Duration Make It Ineffective?
my 52 year old son is on sinemet with parkinson symptoms of stiffness because of lack of oxygen and blood to the brain during surgery when he was 19 years old....damage was done in the same area as parkinsons is there something else he could try....does using sinemet for that many years make it ineffective? is there something else that could help? he can hardly move..affected arms , hands and legs... YYYY@YYYY
Sorry to hear of his condition. Yes, you are right, one problem with Sinamet is that with increasing use it becomes less effective and needs increasing dose.
One solution is that we may increase the dose. Besides this, there are certain other drugs that can be added to Sinamet like MAO inhibitors and COMT inhibitors. This may partially help control the problem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
