Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Intake Of Alcohol Cause Sweating, Heart Palpitations And Chest Pain?
Well, I have always had difficulty just trying to drink , so I stopped for 12 years. In the past 6 months we have moved into a very social neighborhood. So I thought I would try to learn how to drink like an adult. I am 59 and will turn 60 in January. This is what I am noticing. After 2 drinks 3 the most on a weekend I am waking up sweating, my heart is racing and pounding and I am scared to death. I decided alcohol isn t important enough to me to deal with what feels like a significant health scare. Friday evening it almost felt like I had chest pains too! What on earth is the cause of this?
I went through your details. Alcohol enhances your blood circulation by mimicking the pleasure center and you are given with exhilaration. Usually alcohol causes rapid heart beat upto an extent f around 100 beats per minute and thereby little sweating. But in your case, the symptoms could be anxiety oriented. You tried and failed. When you try again, it is natural to have an apprehension and related anxiety. This anxiety might be the cause.
You do not need alcohol. Please do not experiment with it. You may consult a physician to have your EKG investigated.
