Hi there,

Yes, please do give her the Unwanted 72 pills as soon as possible, because the sooner you give it to her, the more effective it is. It is supposed to work up to 72 hours after unprotected sex, but the earlier it is taken, the more effective it is, up to 95%. Any kind of contraception will have a failure rate and is never 100% effective, but this is your best option for now.

It is also a safe option, and she will not have problems getting pregnant in the future. Her next menstruation may not be on time, or she may have heavier/lighter bleeding, but that is to be expected after the Unwanted 72. Other than that it should have no long term effects.

Please also note that withdrawing before you ejaculate your sperm is not a very effective method of avoiding pregnancy, regardless of whether you remember to pull out or not. Discuss with your girlfriend regarding future choices of contraception, to avoid any risk of unplanned pregnancies.

Hope this helps, and all the best to you and your girlfriend.

Regards,
Dr. Teh
