Does Intake Of Folic Acid Increase Peripheral Neuropathy?
Have recently been diagnosed with b12 deficiency pernicious anemia and my folic acid level was low end 6 . I have so far had 4 b12 injections over 4 weeks and was told to take 5mg of folic acid a day. So far I have only had 10 mg of folic acid as I have peripheral neuropathy and was worried the folic acid would make it worse. Am I right to stop the folic acid and will it have done any harm at that small amount.

Does Intake Of Folic Acid Increase Peripheral Neuropathy?
Hi, Thanks for your question. After going through your question noted your concern. Folic acid wont causes worsening of peripheral neuropathy. In fact folic acid deficiency is one of the cause for peripheral neuropathy. So it is advisable to continue Folic acid supplement along with B12. Along with this following tests may be advisable- - Blood sugar level - Fasting, Postprandial, HbA1c. - T3, T4, TSH. Vitamin D3. As diabete, thyroid disorders and vitamin D deficiency are also common causes for peripheral neuropathy. Hope this helps you. If so do vote as helpful.
