Does Intake Of Folic Acid Tablets Cause Delayed Periods?

Hi. I was taking folic acid tablets for a month. I usually have a 32 days cycle. This time even after 43 days, I didn t receive periods. I ve taken the blood test for pregnancy on my 42nd day and it is negative. Could taking folic acid be the reason for delayed periods?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Folic acid is a vitamin compound and it helps to overcome anaemia because it belongs to a class of hemopoietic vitamin. Its intake does not cause delay in period.
Your delay in periods could be due to hormonal imbalance caused due to underlying disorders such as polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD).
Kindly consult Gynecologist as you need evaluation in the form of blood hormone levels as well as ultrasound scan of the abdomen to know what could be the cause, so that it can be treated accordingly.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
