Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Intestinal Obstruction Lead To Vomiting And Constipation?
I think I have an intestinal obstruction. (I had one about 4 years ago so I m familiar with the Symptoms).I vomited about 10 hours after the onset of the pain, which relieved a lot of the pressure. I still have not had any type of bowel movement in about 24 hours.Should I take any type of laxative?
If somebody has intestinal obstruction, they will have no feces or constipation during a lot of days, nausea (vomiting sensation) and vomiting which can be mixed with the feces and also stomach ache. Vomiting can also be with pression as you are describing. Then it is the silence of bowel movement.
If you think you have some of these symptoms, over all you did had once (which increase the risk to have it) I will suggest you to go to the emergency room. It is a really emergent medical situation. Also, not to forget, it exist also sub-obstructive syndrome, which means it is not a complete intestinal occlusion and symptoms may be similar or less expressive, but in both situations, if you find that you have some of those symptoms you should go to see a doctor physically and rapidly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
