Hello,

Your husband is having itchy rash on the arm and chest. He is diabetic and also has high blood pressure. His symptoms can be due to allergic contact dermatitis. Help him stay away from triggers. He can apply ointment hydrocortisone on the area affected. He can take non-sedating antihistamines to get relieve from symptoms. Itching should reduce and he should get relieve. He should use mild antibacterial soap or body lotion. Wash his clothes & bedcover in hot water frequently.

However, such symptoms can also be due to neuropathic itch. His blood glucose and blood pressure level should be under control at all cost. He is suggested to get clinically examined by a Neurologist. Get all the required tests and investigations done to detect or rule out the possibility of MS. He will be treated accordingly. In the meantime you can give him food that are good for the nerves. You can also give him supplements. He can also get connected with a physical therapist for muscle relaxing and stretch exercises. He should avoid stress (emotional and physical).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
