Does Jumping Exercises Lead To Displacement Of IUD In Uterus?

Can jumping cause an IUD (paragard) to migrate to the lower segment of the uterus? I workout twice a day and that may include jumping rope, plyometrics, burpees, jump squats, running or other various forms jumping. Should I stop doing workouts that include jumping to keep my IUD from migrating?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Displacement of IUD in uterus is caused when the string is pulled, bringing in the arms of the IUD and allowing it to slide out of the cervix. It may occur when you are having abdominal spasms, heavy bleeding or severe cramps.

You can take Ibuprofen (Motrin), one stat when needed in case of severe cramps. You can run, you can lift weights, you can swim or do anything with the IUD in the uterus. It commonly does not get displaced. In case you cannot find the strings you should immediately contact your health care provider or your treating doctor and get is fixed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
