Does Knee Arthritis Cause Severe Pain In The Calf?

Hello, can knee (patella) arthritis, or hip arthritis cause severe pain across front of mid calf ? The pain starts in the middle of my front, right calf, and travels down to ankle. I ve had an ultra sound and X-ray- both normal. The pain is intermittent...a few days at a time, then nothing, it sometimes moves to left leg, but in a different area. Thanks for any insight! Mary

Hello Mary and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is possible that you have peripheral vascular disease. You should get an arterial doppler done to look for decreased blood flow in your lower limb arteries. You could get it evaluated by your surgeon. They would then put you on some medications like anti platelets and cholesterol lowering agents. If you smoke, it may be a good idea to decrease and even better stop the same.

I hope this helped.
