Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Lactose intolerance is the inability of adults and children to digest lactose, which is a sugar found in milk and is associated with side effects.
Lactose intolerant individuals have insufficient levels of 'lactase', an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of lactose into
glucose and galactose, in their intestine.
Symptom of lactose intolerance include
abdominal bloating, abdominal cramps,
flatulence,
diarrhea (loose stools),
nausea and
vomiting. These symptoms generally appear one-half to two hours after consumption of milk.
Based on the symptoms you are experiencing, it appears that you could be having lactose intolerance.
Dietary control of lactose intolerance depends on people learning through trial and error how much lactose they can handle. Hence you may experiment by taking mild to moderate doses of lactose foods in diet and see if that could be tolerable.
You can safely consume plant-based "milks" and derivatives such as soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, coconut milk, hazelnut milk, oat milk and peanut milk, which are inherently lactose-free. Low-lactose and lactose-free versions of foods are available to replace dairy-based foods for those with lactose intolerance.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
