I am about 30 pounds overweight, and try as I may, I can t get rid of it. I turned 78 years old today and feel good and if I hadn t been told I had diabetes, I wouldn t have even given it a thought. My husband (92 yrs old) and I eat a healthy diet, don t smoke or drink alcohol. Green tea is what floats our boat. I am considering having lap band surgery to get rid of the weight if it would get rid of the diabetes. What are your thoughts on this procedure to rid myself of diabetes? YYYY@YYYY
There are different weight loss surgeries available. According to the guidelines, surgery is indicated if the persons BMI is greater than 40 kg/m2 or if it is between 30 to 40 kg/m2 but there are obesity related diseases that may improve with surgery.
There are BMI calculators online, it is calculated by dividing the weight ( in KG) by the height (in m and it is squared). If your BMI is in range, then you would be a candidate.
Weight loss surgeries are very helpful with weight loss. The loss of any excess weight would cause your blood sugars to improve.
I hope this helps
