Does Lifting Heavy Weights Cause Flare Up Of Pericarditis?
I have been diagnosed with pericarditis (CT with contrast.) I have had it several times, triggered each time by heavy lifting. I don t see lifting listed as an etiology. If lifting causes it, is there another possible underlying cause? Should I avoid lifting?
You have a history of pericarditis. Get treated for pericarditis at the earliest.
After your treatment is complete you can start exercising slowly with your physiotherapist. As you do regular walking your therapist should monitor your heart rate, cardiac rhythm & blood pressure.
Avoid weight lifting at present. If you feel fit you can do brisk walking & cycling. In case you feel shortness of breath or unexplained weight loss; report immediately to your treating doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
